Congratulations to Saguaro Students who are this year's ACE Graduates

Isabel Anaya, Fabian Cardoso, Sergio Delgado, Kendra Ellner, Ryan Gannuscio,

Alex Gasca, Alaina Navarette and Madison Shirley

ACE -  Achieving a College Education Program at Scottsdale Community College

Achieving a College Education (ACE) Program at Scottsdale Community College is a nationally acknowledged scholarship-based early outreach and college preparation program for high school students.  The program’s goal is to academically prepare students earlier and increase graduation rates at high schools, community colleges, and universities.  Students are recruited during the fall of their sophomore high school year and must complete the application during the first semester and this is provided by SCC and the Saguaro Guidance Department.  If they’re accepted in the ACE program, they’ll receive tuition scholarships during the high school phase of the program.  Students and parents are responsible for purchasing textbooks and providing transportation (Valley Metro bus line and the Scottsdale Trolley have campus stops).  These students must attend a summer session at Scottsdale Community College after their sophomore and junior year of high school and the information will be provided in the spring.  During the fall and spring semesters of their junior and senior year of high school, these students will be enrolled and mainstreamed into one college course each semester at SCC (outside of their regular school day) and they will continue their regular high school courses at their current high school.

For more information, please call (480) 423-6559 or email the ACE program at SCC at outreach@scottsdalecc.edu or

antonio.bracamonte@scottsdalecc.edu   Or go to Facebook - @ACEatSCC

HUNDREDS of Community College Scholarships, one application!

Attention seniors planning to attend one of the many community colleges in our area in the fall!

The Maricopa County Community Colleges Foundation has simplified and streamlined the scholarship application process by using the Academic Works Scholarship System.  District-wide and campus specific scholarships are entered into the Academic Works system, and student profiles are compared to existing scholarships for eligibility.  Students create one profile and apply for hundreds of scholarships!  Please visit mcccdf.org/scholarships before the March 10th Deadline for applications!  For additional help or questions, please email foundation.scholarships@domail.maricopa.edu or call 480-731-4080.

Scottsdale Community College offers a number of scholarships for new and continuing students.

The SCC Honors program offers the Presidents’ Honors Scholarship and the Honors Achievement Award.  For information on these and many other available scholarships for SCC please go to:  http://bit.ly/SCCScholarships

ATTENTION:

Scholarships may require you to complete the FAFSA, which is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (https://fafsa.ed.gov/).  Regardless of income, it is highly recommended to complete this application as it does not commit you to accepting aid and may open doors for other scholarship opportunities.

If you have further questions, please contact your guidance counselor

or

Mrs. Chan in the College and Career Center located in the Saguaro Library

Saguaro High School recently hosted a guest speaker Author Amy Fellner Dominy.

Amy's presentation to our students and staff was fantastic from start to finish. She was engaging, relevant, witty, and meaningful. Everyone enjoyed her insight on the revision aspect of the writing process but more importantly, the students loved it as well.

Thank you Amy Fellner Dominy for shedding light on the writing process, providing accessible and helpful writing tips and tricks, and allowing all of us to enjoy this wonderful presentation.

Dear Saguaro Parents,

Coronado High School, along with many other high schools around the valley, state and nation, received generic threats of violence via social media. None are believed to be credible but all are taken seriously by law enforcement and school officials. Police are aggressively investigating these threats, which are similar in nature. Saguaro has not received any of these threats but we thought it was important to inform you of what is happening in our community.

As always, we are proud of our students who immediately bring any concerns to the attention of site administration. The Scottsdale Unified School District is working closely with the Scottsdale Police Department. As a result, you may notice an increased police presence at your student’s school. We will continue to have stepped-up security, and all of our staff will be vigilant. If your student has any information or any idea about the source of these threats, we urge you to contact police.

Student and staff safety is our top concern.  If you have any questions please call 480-484-7100  or email aachtziger@susd.org.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Achtziger

Interim Principal

Saguaro High School

Dear Saguaro High School Families,

I am so very appreciative of our students, staff, families and community.  Saguaro High School is a place for which to be proud. I feel fortunate to have served six years as the principal at Saguaro!

I have accepted an opportunity to support students, staff and multiple high schools in a leadership position with another organization.

SUSD and the Saguaro community are near and dear to my heart.

I am hopeful that my leadership at Saguaro has served our students and staff well and will continue to do so in the future.

I look forward to an amazing finish to an excellent school year.

With deepest thanks and appreciation for all of your support.

 Respectfully,

Brian Corte
Principal
