Dr. Kate Root, Principal
I moved to Arizona in 1977 to attend Arizona State University. Over the course of 36 years I married and raised five children, and earned four degrees. I take great pride in my role as an educator, a mother and grandmother of six. What I value in this role – the nurturing, supporting, and believing in children- often influences my daily work at Laguna. I strive to create a culture of excitement and a climate of learning that will forever remain in the hearts of every family that attends this fabulous school. I enjoy swimming, walking, cooking, and camping. And of course, there is nothing like a good book not matter what time of day. I love to travel and experience different cultures, something I hope I will be able to do full time some day.
I believe everyone has a well of untapped potential that has never been discovered. A person never knows what might be a new passion unless given the opportunity to explore and try something new. One of my goals is to provide a wide variety of learning opportunities where children can explore future interests and embrace innovative thinking. It is my passion to develop the leadership skills and character that encourage people to aspire to be all they wish to be, whether they are a student or a staff member. I’m humbled by the talent that surrounds me and I feel very fortunate to be a part of this incredible school community.
Introducing Mrs. Brooke Williams
Laguna Assistant Principal
Hello! I will begin my administrative career at Laguna in August! I began my educational career in the Scottsdale Unified School District, graduating from Arcadia High School. I earned a bachelor's degree in family studies and child development from Arizona State University, then earned a master’s degree in K-12 special education, and a second master’s degree in educational leadership. I have worked with SUSD for 11 years teaching everything from preschool through 4th grade in special education as well as serving as the curriculum specialist the last 2 years. As a lifetime learner, I have also received an Autism Specialist Certification (PBIS) from Northern Arizona University and a reading endorsement. I love to be active and am often out biking, hiking, or camping with my husband and three German shepherds. I am a big believer in relationships and supporting students to ensure their success. I look forward to working with and getting to know the Laguna community.
