FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 26, 2017

Ingleside PTO Introduces Rachel’s Challenge to Students and Community

Phoenix, AZ, June 26, 2017 – On Monday, August 14th Ingleside Middle School will welcome a representative from Rachel’s Challenge to kick off the school year with a powerful presentation and message.  This program is designed to motivate students to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion.  Students will attend a presentation during school hours while parents and the entire Ingleside community will be invited to an evening presentation at 6 pm that evening.

“Rachel’s Challenge is designed to ignite a culture shift at Ingleside, by giving our students a platform to be kind and compassionate, making positive changes both on and off campus.  If we can have students feel safe, accepted, and happy, then we can bring classroom learning to its fullest potential,” said Robin Lyon, President, Ingleside PTO.

Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999. Through her example, Rachel’s Challenge is making a positive impact in the lives of millions of students each year. Rachel’s inspiring story provides a simple, powerful example of how small acts of kindness and acceptance motivate us to consider our relationships with the people who we come in contact with every day.

“A positive and safe learning environment for our students is extremely important,“ said Christopher Thuman, Ingleside Principal. “The PTO partnership with Rachel’s Challenge will provide powerful presentations, trainings, events and professional development benefitting the entire community.”

A few weeks after the Columbine tragedy, Rachel’s father Darrell Scott spoke to a Congressional House Judiciary Committee regarding issues of school violence.  His speech has become one of the most widely read documents on the internet. Shortly after, Rachel’s Challenge was founded.  More than 2 million students annually experience the program and have the opportunity to accept Rachel’s Challenge.

For more information regarding the Rachel’s Challenge partnership with Ingleside, contact Robin Lyon, President, Ingleside PTO at president@inglesidpto.com or visit www.rachelschallenge.org.

Congrats to everyone that competed in the math competition.

Congrats to Miss Recla’s class for winning the donut party by donating the most food for the NJHS food drive.

It's that time again, We need your help in KEEPING it REAL in the CAFETERIA!

let's talk about keeping it REAL in the cafeteria.  Would you yell across the table your friends at Arcadia Tavern?  Would you yell across the Thanksgiving table at your Grandma? I don't think so, remember we all need to keep our voices down at lunch in the cafeteria.  Talk to your friends at your table and save the loud stuff for recess.

I know lunchtime is our time to blow off a little steam but things have gotten a little loud and crazy in the cafeteria lately.  We all can do better at keeping it REAL in there.  This means keeping the volume down in the cafeteria and giving our attention to Administrators when they need to make an announcement.  Let's show our respect Ingleside.

Have a great day Ingleside!

Last week’s presidential election was very exciting! In Arizona, some ballots are still being counted for some measures. Now that we know the presidential election results, we need to remember to respect all Americans. We are one country, and we need to treat everyone with respect. In our school, this means being aware of how your words can affect others. Please be respectful and thoughtful with your opinion.

 Have a Tangy Tuesday Ingleside!!
