Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to inform you of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) procedures that we have in place here at Cochise Elementary School under the direction and guidance of the Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD). We want you to be aware that the school district and all of our school campuses have made extensive preparations to respond effectively to all emergency situations. In the event of a major disaster during school hours, your child(ren) will be cared for. SUSD has a detailed ERP, which has been designed in conjunction with police and fire personnel and is formulated to apply to all emergencies as well as a major catastrophe.

In any emergency, your cooperation is required to ensure the safety of all involved:
1.       Please do not call the school. Telephone lines are needed for emergency communication and we want to be able to direct all of our resources immediately to the emergency. We will provide information updates as soon as we are able to do so.
2.       Please do not come to the school until directed. During an emergency, students will be released at designated locations on our school campus or at nearby relocation sites. Parents and guardians will be notified of which site to respond to via the Emergency Phone Notification system, which sends out calls to your home, business and cell phones. To ensure you receive this notification, please make certain that your contact information is kept up-to-date at the front office.
3.       In the event of an emergency, students will be released only to an authorized adult who can show identification and who is listed on the School Emergency Card. Please be sure you consider the following criteria when you authorize another person to pick up your child at school:
      • Is 18 years of age or older
      • Is usually home during the day
      • Could walk to the school if necessary
      • Is known to your child
      • Is aware of and willing and able to fulfill this responsibility
4.       The District website www.susd.org will have updated emergency information as it becomes available. During significant emergencies, radio and television stations will be notified.  Turn your radio to a news station for emergency announcements.
5.       Talk with your child about the importance of following directions given by school personnel in times of an emergency.

Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. Safety is our number one goal, and by working together we can maintain the highest level of safety here at Cochise Elementary School.

Kind Regards,

Sheila Miller
Principal
