Dear Arcadia Parents and Students,

Allow me to take this opportunity to welcome all incoming and returning students to Arcadia High School for the 2016-2017 school year.  We are excited about the future and for our opportunities for renewal and growth.   For the upcoming school year we would like to refocus all stakeholders on our culture of respect for educational integrity via the Arcadia Learning Community Commitment.

At Arcadia we are lucky to have the most talented students, an amazing facility, tremendous parental support, outstanding teachers and staff.  This excellence is evident by our #26 ranking in the state of Arizona, and top 2000 nationally, by US News and World Reports.  We are very proud of our Arcadia students, parents and staff for the accomplishments they have brought to Arcadia Community and we are excited to add to those efforts throughout the upcoming school year. The credit for these accomplishments goes to everyone’s tireless efforts to ensure our mission of respect to the educational process through Action, Academics, and Accountability is embedded in all of our programs as well as within our Titan culture.

On August 8th, we open our doors and embark on our 58th year of existence.  On that day we have a Split Schedule for Freshman Orientation starting at 7:45am and they will stay until 2:20.  Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors report to their first hour class starting at 11:20am, and all students will stay until the final regular bell ending school at 2:20pm.  As we prepare for the upcoming year, it is our Commitment that we will continue to ensure the following:

  1.  Provide an environment of high scholastic achievement
  2.  Provide a positive, respectful, and safe learning environment
  3.  Provide an environment of communication and collaboration among all our stakeholders – students, staff, and parents

To support our students, we offer a variety of academic interventions programs such as FAST (Free After School Tutoring), GAP (Generating Academic Potential), and THRIVES which will once more be offered every Thursdays starting on a date to be determined.  Additionally, our teachers provide services such as individual and group tutorials as well as individual parent/student conferences.   Arcadia High School communicates in many ways however please familiarize yourself with our Website as it will allow us to continue to meet one of our goals of more effectively communicating information.  On the website each certified staff member will have a landing page so that parents and students can more easily access information.

Each year, schools deal with numerous campus safety issues as well as potential educational interruptions such as student discipline, inappropriate student choices, and lack of respect for individual differences. We are encouraging our students and parents to help us promote a climate of mutual trust and respect on our campus.  Arcadia has continually focused on respectful choices and we were once again honored last year by the Anti-Defamation League as only one of nine high schools in Arizona as a No Place for Hate school.  I would request taking the time to read the literature and policies regarding the following topics – drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, school dress code, and the SUSD Uniform Code of Conduct.  Please encourage your student(s) to make appropriate choices when confronted with difficult decisions either on or off campus.  Arcadia’s diverse student body is a great representation of our society at large.  We must respect our cultural differences and recognize the wealth each one of us brings to the Arcadia Learning Community.   We also request that you support our expectations in regards to respectful behaviors by all stakeholders.    In an effort to build stronger relationships within these groups, and enhance the Arcadia Learning Community Commitment, we have developed, in collaboration with the Arcadia PTO, a Flowchart to help stakeholders appropriately resolve concerns.  We hope that everyone will take advantage of this flowchart when concerns arise throughout the school year as it will allow for clear communication between all parties involved.

One of our most unique and helpful qualities is our parental involvement. When parents and schools work together as partners to support both District and site goals and policies, we are ensuring that all students have an environment that produces intellectual opportunities, as well as the ability to interact with people-- thus providing all students the necessary skills and tools to become lifelong learners, skilled problem solvers, and responsible citizens.  Several ways for parents to become active participants in the learning process include the following:

  1. Become an active member of our PTO, Booster organizations, and student clubs.
  2. Become a parent volunteer – front desk, photocopying, lunch cart, etc.
  3. Participate in Site/District committees –calendar, grading, boosters, etc.

It is very important that all students attend registration prior to school starting.  The dates and times of registration are attached HERE and we hope that families will join us for Open House on Monday, August 29th starting promptly at 6pm.

The success of any organization, whether public or private, is dependent on the expectations set forth from the beginning.   The upcoming school year promises to be yet another year filled with exciting events for the Arcadia Learning Community and we hope everyone will start the year ready for success. We welcome and value your thoughts and encourage students and parents to respectfully seek answers to questions.  We are committed to your son/daughter having a safe, positive, and enriching high school experience that will result in a well-rounded adult.  I am humbled to be the principal of Arcadia High School and I look forward to August 8th, and the opening of another school year.   Go Titans!
