Scottsdale Mayor’s Constitution Day Contest

Five SUSD students were recently named grand prize winners in the Scottsdale Mayor’s Constitution Day Contest.  Students from 1st grade through high school compete in 3 divisions by grade level and submit either art or essay entries.

Melanie McIntire from Anasazi Elementary School was the 1st – 5th grade essay winner.  Melanie wrote a 250-word essay about what the Constitution means to her.

PBIS Film Festival Winners

Our PBIS programs are an important part of SUSD. Students and staff teamed up to create some great films for the PBIS Film Festival. 

  • Most Influential Film: Anasazi Elementary School
anasazi_spellingbee.jpg District Spelling Bee Winner and 5 Runner Ups

Twenty-five elementary and middle school students from across the District competed for the title of District Champion. The top six competitors from the Bee move on to the Region II Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Noah Hatton, a 5th grade student at Sequoya Elementary School, who took home the first place trophy in Scottsdale Unified School District's Spelling Bee. The Anasazi representative is, Farhan Babur, a 4th grade student.

A+ School of Excellence
In the past two years, SUSD schools were designated at A+ Schools of Excellence by the Arizona Education Foundation. This is the fourth time that Anasazi has been honored with this award; the school also received the honor in 1995, 2003 and 2009.

Anasazi was included on the 2013 The National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) Higher Performing School list.  NCEA identifies Higher Performing Schools based on one or both of two measures: 1) Consistent improvement in student achievement from previous years (growth) and/or 2) An above-predicted percentage of continuously enrolled students scoring at the Exceeds level on the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards.

Congratulations to our Wordmasters students and their teachers. Our grades three, four and five scores were among the top school scores in the nation again this past year.

Exemplary Program from AEF
Congratulations to Mrs. Constantinescu and the Anasazi TV News Crew for being recognized and awarded an A+ Exemplary Program from AEF. The school TV studio has been on the air daily now for 17 years.
